A Letter to my 24 year old self

Dear Self,
It’s time for a change.
Guess what? You’re beautiful. Yes, you really are. Learn to appreciate the beauty within and outside yourself. Stop frowning when you look at yourself in the mirror. All your little imperfections are beautiful. The moles? They make you you. Your eyes? They are not a boring brown. If you look closely, you will see the beauty in them. Your thick wavy hair? Be thankful for it. Your pointy ears? They are awesome. Your lips are gorgeous.
Stop letting the things assholes have said about you in the past affect you, affect your self-esteem, and your insecurity issues. You’re beautiful and your husband loves you. Smile more. Be happy. Laugh. Laugh a lot. Laugh every day until your stomach hurts and tears are in your eyes.
Enough with letting your past continue to haunt you. Enough with not standing up to your mother. Enough with putting yourself down. Those jeans look great on you. Enough with not loving yourself. Stop being afraid to say what you have to say. Stop holding back.
Stop with the excuses. Enough with the “I’m not good enough” attitude when someone suggest you bake cakes for weddings. Enough with not thinking you can get up on a stage and shake your ass in a burlesque show. Enough with being too insecure about your body to have a boudoir shoot, taken for yourself to admire your beauty. Enough already with letting your daughter learn how to hate herself by watching you hate yourself
It’s time to start to be thankful for what you have. Every day. Write it down. On a post card. To yourself in your journal. On Twitter. On Facebook. On Tumblr. It’s time to start smiling. Smiling at strangers. It’s time to open your heart to new things and experience life in a way you haven’t before.
You deserve to have be happy.
Happy Birthday.
I once heard or read someone saying that they wrote down a list everyday of 10 things they were grateful for/what makes them happy/what they love about themselves/ etc etc. So, maybe you should do that for at least a month and then reflect on it after month’s end.
I love you friend!
Wishing you the most happiest of birthdays!
Love, love, LOVE. This is probably one of the nicest, best birthday gifts you could give yourself. <3
To build on Stacey's comment, I do this: my defunct Day Planner has become my Gripes & Gratitude journal. I will write out anything that's bothering me, then list five things I'm grateful for. Writing out the crap makes me feel like I can walk away from it (at least for the time being), and following it up with the gratitude leaves me on a more positive note. It's REALLY helped me – might be worth a shot?
xoxo
Happy Birthday
This is so inspirational. I’m so proud of you for this! What a great letter, at any age! A lifetime of Happy Birthday wishes and lots of love (from others… and yourself) today… and everyday!
[...] my birthday, I wrote myself a letter. A letter that I actually wrote out in my real life journal as well. Because its important to me. [...]
